Newcastle United FC’s News & Articles
Wednesday, July 25, 2007 - Exclusive More defenders to come and Dyer to solve family problems Newcastle United is keen to bring more defenders into the current squad and Sam Allardyce will race with the time before the new season kick-off. The latest name linking with United is Norwegian giant Brede Hangeland, who is currently play for FC Copenhagen. The Journal said that United are closing in on signing the player, while Reading’s right-back Nicky Shorey, which is still on out-of-contract status. Shorey hasn’t signed anything for the new contract length with the Madejski Stadium side. It is widely reported that Reading, although keen to hold on to the 26-year-old player, are willing to surrender if there’s any side offering them more than £6m for Shorey. Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce has given up the hope to hold-on Kieron Dyer from leaving the club. Quoted from the Daily Express, He said: "At the moment, there’s a problem from a family point of view and we have to try to see whether we can resolve that, and if we cannot, then that may well result in Kieron looking to leave the club for that reason and that reason alone."
Sam added more that the discussions between the club and Dyer have been made and it’s obviously disappointing to see Dyer leave, but it is one that Sam can understand.
"If somebody has got a problem they cannot resolve, then ultimately in the long run, it is better for the club and better for him if you can resolve that problem." Well, if Dyer actually will leave us then I wish him all the very best for his future and his new club. Dyer will always be welcome if he wants to come back after the family problem is solved.
