Newcastle United and Sam Allardyce are very keen to bring in more versatile players to back-up the Toon revolution. Currently we have several key players in Big Sam squad who can operate in different position.
Charles N’Zogbia and Alan Smith are two versatile players who has shown some great performance so far while being fielded in different position.
Formerly operate from left side of the midfield, N’Zogbia found himself doing great as a left-wing back, while Alan Smith has did the job in three different positions so far. His latest role is to be the first man infront Newcastle’s back four.
The latest player on target was Russia’s versatile Andrei Arshavin. He can play in four roles – as a deep-lying forward, an out-and-out winger, an attacking midfielder and as a back-up striker, he also have won several awards for his role in those position. He was last year Russia’s Player of the Year.
Andrei Arshavin (Russian: Андрей Сергеевич Аршавин) born May 29, 1981 in Saint Petersburg, currently playing for the Russian Premier League team Zenit St. Petersburg. His natural position is a midfielder and a striker.
In 1999-2000 Andrey played for FC Zenit reserve team. He made his debut for the first squad in the Intertoto Cup away game against Bradford, which FC Zenit won 3:0. In his first game in the starting eleven Andrey justified the hopes of the head coach of that time Yuiy Morozov.
He is known for superb pace, dribbling qualities, vision, technique and passing. These attributes and his hard working nature have turned him into one of the most important players for his club and country.
Arshavin has scored 11 goals in his 25 matches for Zenit in the UEFA Cup. His debut for the national team was on May 17, 2002 in a match against Belarus.
This Saturday, Big Sam will send his top scouts to watch Arshavin when he lead the Russian team against Israel.
