Up until the end of January we will often read many speculations of possible transfrers in and out Newcastle United. For the last couple of weeks now, The Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin has been widely reported as Sam Allardyce main target in January, while the Israeli defender Tal Ben-Haim was once again being linked for a reunion with his former manager at Bolton.
The other names are including Brazilian Edmilson and Rangers young player Allan Hutton.
Sam Allardyce says on the official site that his scouts are already out for identifying possible transfer targets ahead of the January window opening. He is looking for players on two levels – those who could slot immediately into the first team, and those at the ‘development’ age between 17 and 20.
“The club has very few development players between the ages of 17 and 20, and then below that, to bring through more and better players for the Academy.” Said Allardyce, “That all comes with time, the right structure and the right amount of knowledge to get those players.”
Newcastle United under Big Sam and the new owner is very keen to develop a good football academy to supply the first team in the future. This is actually a very good thing to do and when the time goes by, we will see more good players coming in from our own academy.
As for those who could slot immediately into the first team, Newcastle’s scouts are now returning back from their last weekend hunting hours in some of the Euro 2008 qualification games, and will have the reports ready in Big Sam desk.
Meanwhile, in order to secure the move for Ranger’s Allan Hutton, Big Sam will face a tough callenge from Manchester United Sir Alex Fergusson. Hutton has impressed for club and country in recent months and his performance in Saturday’s Euro 2008 qualifying defeat to Italy.
But whoever makes any move for Hutton must be ready to pay the highest transfer fees because Rangers will be determined to keep hold of the full-back and having tied him down to a new five-year contract recently.
