United’s future stars open the New Year account in style with a 5-1 win in Premier Academy League North against Huddersfield. Ryan Donaldson was the Magpies hero with his treble at Huddersfield yesterday.
The second-half hattrick from 16 years-old Ryan gives the Toon academy a comfortable win after leading with one goal at the break courtesy of Jonny Godsmark’s 12-yard finish in the area, thanks to Patrick McLaughlin good service.
Frank Wiafe Danquah made it two with his first-time shot from the edge of the area in 63 minutes. The young Dutch striker teed-up to the goal by his strike partner Donaldson.
The Terriers halved the Young Magpies lead in 69 minutes when Jackson headed home from Pickering’s corner.
Donaldson got his first of the afternoon in just thirteen minutes left in second-half. A clever pass from Danquah was cleverly lifted over Terriers keeper Eastham to start his goal festive of the day.
Donaldson got his second with a curling strike on 87 minutes after two attempts on goal from his team-mates Mark Doninger and Matthew Grieve cannon off Terriers crossbar.
The England youth international have one goal being denied by a linesman’s flag before finally netting his third on the last minutes.
