Newcastle’s young defender, Peter Ramage making another milestone on his fitness to comeback for a return to black and white action before the end of the season. Pete started light jogging for the first time this week since tearing his cruciate ligament during the Tyne-Tees derby at Middlesbrough in August.
“I’ve started running, and it went well. I took it nice and easy, and did a few pitch runs,” said Peter. “There were no problems, and hopefully I can step it up from here. It’s more than three months since the injury, and this is a halfway marker. I’m doing a day on, day off, and am not going to go overboard with it.”
Geordie Boy Peter Iain Ramage born November 22, 1983, in Ashington where other famous United player like Jackie Milburn and the former club owner Sir John Hall were also born. Peter is a versatile player who can played at various positions, but his preferred position is central defence.
Peter played in the same youth team as Michael Chopra and Steven Taylor under Alan Irvine (now assistant manager of Everton), before later being coached by former Newcastle players Kenny Wharton and Peter Beardsley.
He was first playing as a striker when he joined the Newcastle United school of Excellence at the aged of just 13 years old. He changed his playing position to defender due to there already being too many forwards in the squad.
In the reserve team he was coached by another former United player, Tommy Craig. In March 2003, Ramage won the “Wor Jackie Milburn Trophy” an award which given each year to the rising star of north-east football.
He worked his way through Newcastle’s youth system and captained the Newcastle reserve side before making his breakthrough to the first team squad.
Ramage made his first team debut as a substitute in Newcastle’s UEFA Cup round-of-16 match second leg against Olympiakos Piraeus on March 16, 2005.
