Newcastle United are a Premier League club and although they’re not one of the biggest in the world, they do have a pretty good following. Actually, the deal was signed between the two clubs as a loan for the 33-year-old goalkeeper. How this deal will proceed, will have to wait and see but what we know for now is that Newcastle have a recall option they can use in January  if they required.

No success in acquiring Jack Harrison

Newcastle United expressed interest earlier in the transfer window for the famous Leeds player Jack Harrison. From the start the club was prepared to pay an amazing 19 million pounds for the player to join. They even approached Leeds once more recently, again without success and with the player Jack Harrison himself saying he wants to stay in his current club.

Mike Ashley finally decided that it was time to jump ship and it was because of an offer received by a Saudi Prince, Mohammad Bin Salman

Have the Prayers Finally Been Answered?

After the struggle in the top flight, the fans were enduring the news of a takeover was a blessing. Prince Mohammad Bin Salman is actually the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, second only to King Salman who is the most important person in the country. However, since the king has been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for a long time, Prince Salman has been running things in his stead.

Bin Salman is also supported by Amanda Stavley and her PCP Capital Partners who are spearheading the takeover with a rumored bid of £300 million.

What gives the fans hope is the fact that Amada also led Sheik Mansour’s takeover of Manchester City back in the day. And just look at how things came about there.

Another Bidder

Bit things are not running as smoothly as everybody expected. Until today, the takeover has been taking twice as long as it usually lasts. Problems emerged with broadcasting rights that have allegedly damaged both the Premier League and Newcastle itself.

Mike Ashley wrote to the Premier League prompting a decision which till this day hasn’t been made. Debates are still being led between BeIN Sports, the broadcasting partner, and Senior Legal Counsel and Director of Corporate Affairs David Sugden. They are reluctant to give any comments about the matter and are not revealing anything neither to the public nor Ashley himself.

During this time another bidder emerged in the form of Henry Mauriss the chief executive of Clear TV from the US. His alleged bid of £350 million outweighs the current offer that the Saudi Prince has laid on the table and has stirred the pot of the takeover.

Nevertheless, the final decision is still with Ashley who has to get things sorted with the Premier League first.

A Bright Future

Whatever the outcome may be, the Magpies are looking at a brighter future ahead of them. Historically, dealing with investors from the Far East has brought success to English clubs (Man City), while not so much from the US (Man United). So it is clear who the fans would like to win in the bidding war.

For now, things are still uncertain and the best that everyone can do is wait for things to get sorted. Hopefully, some good things are finally in store for the Magpies’ future.

St. James’ Park Previous Matches

The Magpies home turf hosted plenty of glorious football matches, most of which ended very well for England. The best known ones are probably for the 1996 EUROS. England didn’t play at those matches, but they were definitely entertaining. All the matches England played on this stadium, they won, except one in 1933 when they lost to Wales and 1907 when they were tied with Scotland at the British Home Championship. In 2001, they won against Albania and in 2004, they won against Ukraine. At the 2012 Olympic Games, the stadium also hosted matches, 6 of them, in fact. The matches played were from the group stage and quarterfinals. 

EURO 2020 Warm-Up Match

On June 7, 2020, England is set to play against Romania at the Newcastle United’s home stadium, St. James’ Park. This match will serve as a warm-up match for both teams, with hopes of Romania actually reaching the main tournament, after the qualifying playoffs.  England is set to play against Croatia on June 14, so their warm-up match is much needed. On June 2, however, they will travel to Austria to face the Austrian national team, in Vienna. This is also a part of their training and warm-up. 

What This Means for the Magpies

Whenever a stadium hosts an international event, popularity of that stadium increases. The Magpies already have very devoted fans, so their own popularity is not in question. It is not wrong to say, however, that they will benefit from this, as interest always rises after a match is played on a certain stadium, especially if your home team wins. England’s record is very good at St. James’ Park.

The Magpies and Magpies’ fans will love hosting the England national team on June 7, 2020. The warm-up match will show us the performance of the England national team, hopefully, a good one. Heading into the EURO 2020, England has chosen a great stadium to play their home turf match.
