Things are not going really well between Newcastle United and Michael Owen since he was signed for Toon in a club record of £17 million. Although I personally wanted him to stay and do his best for the club that paid him £120,000-per-week, but with his current injury that would last no less than a month for a recovery, should Newcastle keep him or we let him go in January or next summer?

Last month, when asked if he wanted his club to initiate negotiations, Allardyce said: “I’d like to see him fit for the next 20 games on the trot or more and then enter into a new contract. The most important thing is that he’s available for selection every week and we can control it.”

Newcastle chairman Chris Mort insisted there was no escape clause in Owen’s contract now but he also amid talk he may leave next summer if there is any club come for him with at least a £6 million bid.

“There was a clause in Michael’s contract which allowed him to leave for a certain fee during the last transfer window and the summer before, but that sort of clause doesn’t exist any longer,” Mort said.

Mr. Mort also reveals that he is hoping that one player who will be around in January is Michael Owen. He said that Michael Owen will not be included in the January sales because of his admiration for the player. But he also don’t feel now is the right time to talk about extending Owen’s contract.

Now, with his latest injury, It was doubtful that we will see Michael Owen in Black-and-White shirt next summer. Sam Allardyce is remain silence about Owen’s future at St. James’ Park, but some media believe that he may have prepared to cash-in Michael Owen sooner or later.
