What an opponent we have on the opening day of the new season. Toon Army will have to travel down to Manchester at Old Trafford when we will start the campaign against the champions Manchester United on Aug 16.
Until now, we still don’t see any potential sign of new players to come to St. James’s Park, while many news have been reported us being linked to European top names such as the Dutch 25-year-old midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart, Mario Gomez, Bafetimbi Gomis, Arda Turan and…Ronaldinho?
While the prospect to get them is like a daydream to me, I can’t say that it was impossible too. We will never know if the Keegan magic does work again like on his old days where he can get any players he wants and prove to be successful signings.
Meanwhile, there were also some news about the current Toon players being tipped out of the North East this summer. Jim Magilton is very keen to take Shola Ameobi to join his Ipswich Town side, and James Milner is hoping to have his dream move to Anfield revealed soon.
According to a report in the News of the ScrewsWorld newspaper, Reds manager Rafa Benitez is ready to offered midfielder Danny Guthrie, 21, as part payment for James Milner move to Liverpool.
Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is also still keen on taking Milner to the West Midlands, but Newcastle value him at £7m and from what it looks, we are appears to holding up any possible deal before we have line up a replacement.
Shola moves to Ipswich, if finally going through, can added a £4m boost to our summer transfer funds. Ameobi has already rejected a move to the top flight new boys, Stoke City, after having some time joining them on loan basis at the end of last season. Sho thinks that he didn’t feel he fits into their style of play.
From the other news, there’s a report saying that we have launch a £10m bid for St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis. Senegalese descent player has start his first International game for France last week when they play against the mighty Dutch side, where they get lost 4-1. Inter Milan new boss Jose Mourinho is also reported ready to give us challenge for the 22-year-old striker move to Tyneside.
Alright, let’s see who is finally coming to the North East and wear the sacred Black-and-Whites. And, I leave you now with the complete opening Premier League fixtures:
Arsenal v West Brom
Aston Villa v Man City
Bolton v Stoke
Chelsea v Portsmouth
Everton v Blackburn
Hull v Fulham
Man Utd v Newcastle Utd
Middlesbrough v Tottenham
Sunderland v Liverpool
